Colour Wheel Art Therapy
Kathryn Schmidt, MA, CCC
Art Therapist & Canadian Certified Counsellor
Art therapy combines counselling with various art materials and directives in order to help each person achieve their therapeutic goals. It can assist with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, emotional regulation, and life changes. Art therapy is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Individual counselling is a talk-based approach that helps you realize your therapeutic goals through discussion. Talking through issues can help you to develop greater insight, learn coping skills, and make positive changes in your life.
Dyad work allows a parent and child to work on attachment needs. Together the parent and child, under guidance of the art therapist will learn to co-regulate and express themselves more effectively.
Group art therapy is a great way to connect and create with others. I offer group workshops periodically that focus on different topics such as relaxation, insight, emotional expression, and grief work.
My therapeutic approach is humanistic and client-centred. I work with each individual or family to build goals and develop a treatment plan. I incorporate art materials and art activities into my sessions in order to assist with the therapeutic process.
I work frequently with individuals with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, life stressors and grief.
Art therapy can address any therapeutic goals such as increased insight, emotional expression and regulation, better attachment between caregivers and children, management of symptoms such as stress, as well as increased executive functioning.
